Our teeth play a major role in the function of chewing. If we talk about tooth loss, like the negative health symptoms experienced in other parts of our body over the years, there are also losses on the side of our teeth.
Prosthetic teeth come into play at this point. Tooth losses that occur can be eliminated with different types of dentures depending on the number of losses that occur;
Fixed Prostheses
Fixed dentures are types of dentures that are fixed on neighboring teeth of tooth loss that occur over time and are perceived by the patient as their own tooth or teeth. Crowns, where substance losses on a single tooth are eliminated, or bridges, where tooth deficiencies are completed, are called fixed prostheses.
Crown
The destruction that occurs in the tooth as a result of caries or trauma, in some cases leads to the loss of a large part of the tooth and weakening of the tooth. In order to strengthen the tooth in terms of durability, it must be coated with metal, ceramic or full ceramic restorations. This coating, which restores the shape, color and function of the tooth, is called a crown.
Bridging
Bridge construction is one of the methods used to eliminate dental deficiencies. Missing teeth or teeth are tried to be repaired by bridges made by taking support from neighboring teeth. For this reason, neighboring teeth should be reduced at a certain rate. Bridges usually consist of a metal substructure to withstand chewing forces and a porcelain superstructure that provides aesthetics. However, in today’s technology, it is possible to make more aesthetic and natural bridges with porcelain only in some cases.
Movable Prostheses
Movable dentures are a treatment method that is often used to complete missing teeth. It is applied in cases where the number of missing teeth will not be compensated with a fixed prosthesis. A prosthesis is called a partial prosthesis if it completes some of the missing teeth on the jaw, and a total prosthesis if all the teeth in the jaw are missing.
We all worry that when we use prostheses, the prostheses in our mouth will be noticed immediately. However, in today’s technology, it has become quite easy to provide a natural image with prostheses and fully meet the aesthetic expectations of the patient.
If you have lost all or part of your teeth, dentures will improve your vision, speech, biting and chewing food. If the prosthesis is not made, the natural teeth may bend towards the gap where the missing neighboring teeth are; the upper teeth may move down, the lower teeth may move up. In this case, it prevents your remaining teeth from performing healthy biting and chewing functions. Dentures can be applied to your mouth immediately after the extraction of your teeth, this type of dentures is called ‘immediate denture’.

Things To Pay Attention To
– Wash the prosthesis in a container full of water so that it does not break, so that the possibility of breakage is eliminated if you drop it.
– Brush every day with a medium-hardness brush.
– You can use toothpaste or soap, but it needs to be rinsed thoroughly before applying it to your mouth.
– When going to bed at night, it is necessary to remove the prostheses from the mouth and put them in a container filled with water to ensure that the tissues in the mouth come into contact with saliva and air out.
Implant-Based Prostheses
Implants are a method used to complete missing teeth. Because part of the implant is surgically inserted into the bone like a natural tooth root, patients feel and use the implants like real teeth. This procedure is usually performed with local anesthesia. In our hospital, you can also have this procedure performed with general anesthesia or sedation in the operating room environment. After the fusion of the implants with the jawbone, fixed or movable prostheses are applied on it.
